This is an independent website. We are not the State of Colorado, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), the Colorado Department of Revenue, the Department of Revenue's Firearms Dealer Division, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, any county sheriff's office, or any other government agency.
We are not employed by, contracted with, funded by, or acting on behalf of any of these entities, and nothing on this site should be read as an official statement, ruling, or position of the State of Colorado or any of its agencies.
Why we quote and link to them so much
A lot of what we publish is built directly on primary sources: the text of SB25-003, the Colorado Revised Statutes, and guidance documents published by CPW and the Firearms Dealer Division. We quote and link to these sources so you can verify what we're saying against the original, not because we speak for the agencies that produced them. Any interpretation, analysis, opinion, or conclusion on this site is ours alone, not theirs.
Terminology
Terms such as “specified semiautomatic firearm,” “SSF,” “Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card,” and “Firearms Safety Program” are the state's statutory and program terminology. We use them descriptively to refer to the same programs and legal categories the state uses them for—not to imply that we created, administer, or are affiliated with those programs.
Where to find authoritative information
If you need something official, go directly to the source:
- Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Firearms Safety Program
- Department of Revenue, Firearms Dealer Division
- Colorado General Assembly, SB25-003 bill page
- Your county sheriff's office for application questions.
When anything on this site conflicts with an official source, the official source controls—not us.
